After seeing Holly's awesome Pottery Barn knock-off, I knew I wanted to make one for our newly built end table.

I used her same technique of chalk-and-trace, which worked really well with the dark color I'd chosen for the sign. I just taped off a border to make everything a little more centered, used my hand sander to rough it all up, and settled in for a night of hand painting letters.
To find the name of a feed store, I used the Southern States Co-Op locator. I knew I wanted something country-sounding and I didn't think myself creative enough to come up with it on my own. So I searched state-by-state until I found the "Sweet Water Gin Co., Inc." in Sweet Water, Alabama. But I was worried that "Gin Co., Inc." would look too much like an alcohol label on the sign, so I switched it to "feed" and dropped the Incorporated tag.
L♥VE. Total cost was all of $5.50. I spent $4 on a pack of paint brushes of varying sizes (great because they all had angled tips which is perfect for a project like this), and $1.50 on the box of white chalk. Everything else I had on hand. The plywood was leftover from our headboard. I love the dark splash of color it gives to our white table and accessories.

I was in the Marine Corps for six years so it's great to read all about it from the other side of the fence, typically so I can learn since I'm no longer in the uniform.
